Frequently Asked Questions

What is a tally counter?

A tally counter is a device that records a running count one increment at a time. Traditionally it is a handheld metal clicker with a thumb button and a four-digit mechanical display. This online tally counter does the same job in your browser, with no hardware to buy or batteries to replace.

Is this digital tally counter free?

Yes, completely. There are no ads, no accounts, and no limit on how many tally counters you create or how high you count.

How is this better than a handheld tally counter?

A mechanical clicker holds one count and caps at 9999. This one runs several independent tallies side by side, counts up or down, steps by any amount, undoes mistakes, shows a combined total, and is always in your pocket because it is on your phone.

Can I run more than one tally at once?

Yes. Add as many tally counters as you need and give each one a name — for example Adults, Children, and Staff. Each keeps its own count and you get a running total across all of them.

Will my tally be lost if I close the page?

No. Every tally is saved in your browser automatically and is still there when you return. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Can I undo a mis-click on my tally?

Yes. Undo rolls back the last change, including an accidental reset. This is the main thing a mechanical tally counter cannot do.

Does the tally counter work without internet?

Yes. It is a Progressive Web App, so once the page has loaded it keeps working offline — useful for counting in basements, stockrooms, or out in the field.

Can I use it as a people counter at a door?

Yes, this is one of the most common uses. Make one counter for people entering and a second set to Down for people leaving, or use two counters and read the total.
